Chicken
Chicken is a good source of lean protein and contributes to a healthy weight, muscle growth and development. It also contains an abundance of selenium and phosphorus, which are essential minerals known to support teeth, bones, kidneys, liver, the central nervous system and immune function. Chicken also contains niacin (B3 vitamin) that helps guard against cancer and other forms of genetic damage plus it helps to ease arthritis. It also has Vitamin A which helps to promote eye health. Chicken livers are also a good source of vitamin B2, which will help to repair dry or damaged skin.
All the protein and ingredients in this recipe have been cooked at a constant gentle 90C, any higher means the proteins would be denatured and much of the goodness in this recipe would not be bioavailable to your dog. As the proteins and nutrients have been protected with a long lower pressure cooking time, this means increased digestibility and absorption of nutrients, which in turn means fewer stools!
Sweet Potato
We've added sweet potatoes to this recipe because they are easy to digest, highly nutritious and contain lots of natural dietary fibre. Sweet potatoes are also excellent for gastrointestinal health. They provide a boost in beta-carotene which helps to protect against heart disease and they are a good source of potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, and zinc, plus they are naturally low in sodium - all good to help regulate blood pressure, stress levels, blood sugar levels and they are anti-inflammatory. They also contain vitamins A, C and E, all good for the skin and coat health of your dog. Sweet potatoes also encourage good stool formation.
Parsley
Parsley contains microbial properties that can help bad breath. It is also rich in antioxidants to protect against free-radical damage. It can also help relieve pain and swelling from arthritis and even more inflammatory conditions, it also boosts liver health and it is rich in many vitamins and minerals.
Basil
Basil is known to help prevent damage to cells and can lower the risk of cancer. As basil is an anti-inflammatory, it can also help ease the pain of arthritis. Many supplements for dogs also contain basil because of its calming effects.
Oregano
Oregano is naturally high in antioxidants, it has even more antioxidant power than apples and blueberries! Oregano helps to provide immune system support and it contains anti-fungal properties to ward off the growth of bacteria.
MOS and FOS Prebiotics
MOS and FOS are natural plant-based prebiotics. They occur naturally in plants such as chicory, asparagus and artichokes. Their job is to feed and grow the good bacteria so that bacteria such as salmonella and clostridium are kept at bay. Having a healthy gut means better digestion, improved immunity, good brain health, less flatulence and solid stool formation!
Flaxseeds
In each portion of your dog's meal, there are also Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids in the flaxseeds that are in this recipe. They are both essential for normal physiologic function, cell membrane structure, and cell function. They help to keep your dog’s coat shiny and skin healthy and they contain anti-inflammatory properties to help your dog’s immune system. Flaxseeds also contain good amounts of fibre to help in the digestive process.
